GENERAL FAQ

The Greater Derry Londonderry Chamber is an independent, nonprofit, and nonpartisan business advocacy organization made up of voluntary members from the business community.

Members invest their time and money to further their collective interests, while advancing our community, region, and state. Through this network, businesses are able to advocate on behalf of the community at large, economic prosperity, and business interests.

The Chamber helps create job opportunities through stimulation of commercial and industrial growth. It supports the business community by providing: Exposure through advertising, promotion, and visibility; the Impact of a “collective voice” regarding issues that affect your business; Education through professional development and information necessary for success; and Referrals of only member businesses and their products and services through our office, website, and local visitor’s center.

The work of the the Greater Derry Londonderry Chamber is funded through the investment of the members (dues and sponsorships) which supports the development of programs and initiatives that positively impact local business and industry. The Chamber is NOT a government agency, nor is it affiliated with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The organization does not receive any federal, state, county or town funding. A local business does NOT automatically attain membership through location or by association. It is a voluntary membership with paid dues, similar to other professional organizations and networking groups.

In exchange for the member investment, the Chamber provides opportunities for visibility, education, advocacy and a “collective voice.” While many communities throughout America, and even around the world, have a Chamber of Commerce, each Chamber is unique in both the services that it offers and the businesses it represents.

The governing body of the Chamber is its Board of Directors. The board represents a cross section of the Chamber’s membership. The Board’s function is to determine policy for the organization. The Board is also responsible for the Chamber’s internal and external goals, its finances, and determining the appropriate membership investment schedule.

The Chamber also employs two full time staff. The staff manages the day-to-day functions of the organization, including planning and hosting special events, publishing the Chamber’s newsletter and website, and fostering community and economic development in the region.

The Chamber performs many functions to foster the growth of the business community. It is important to us that our members have the tools necessary to achieve success in their businesses. The Chamber recognizes its members’ contributions to the local economy and works as their advocate at all levels of government.

The Greater Derry Londonderry Chamber hosts regular networking opportunities such as monthly Business After Hours and Business Over Coffee and twice monthly  lunches, which facilitate relationship building, lead generation, and professional development among Greater Derry and Londonderry’s diverse business communities. The Chamber also organizes dozens of special events and programs each year throughout the community.

Members are included in our annual Visitors & Relocation Guide, which also serves as the Chamber’s printed business directory, which is distributed throughout the Chamber’s catchment and beyond.

The Chamber is a business, and it incurs the costs of operation. These expenses are paid for by membership dues and sponsorship opportunities. Members, individuals, and companies representing all types of business, industry, and professions share in the financial support of the Chamber. All share a mutual desire to achieve a better community for all of its citizens, thus making the Chamber of Commerce a tangible investment. The Chamber is not a charity; we are a 501(c)6 advocacy organization for local businesses.

Join today and benefits begin immediately. Benefits go far beyond networking and being listing in the Chamber’s online and printed business directories. Members may participate in any of our professional development or special events. Through the Chamber, member businesses form a “collective voice” to advocate on behalf of the community-at-large, economic prosperity and business interests.

The Chamber is the sales force for the community and business. We promote the products and services of our members through brochure display, referrals, advertising, and networking. The united voice of the Chamber has often proven effective and beneficial to business where a single voice can go unheard.
